The beautiful traditionally styled Sungai Tinggi Beach Villa rests on the shores of a pristine black-sand beach in the peaceful rural village of Pererenan, on Bali’s southwest coast. Sungai Tinggi Beach Villa comprises a main six-bedroom villa, a glorious open-sided living and dining pavilion, lush gardens and an 18-metre infinity edge pool.

This blissful villa sits on the banks of a small lagoon, where the river meets the sea, with over 100 metres of beach frontage overlooking one of Canggu’s most famous surf breaks. Soft rolling lawns hug the landscape’s natural contours while a free-form 18-metre infinity swimming pool blends seamlessly with the ocean all the way to the horizon. The garden, bursting with fragrant frangipanis, swaying coconut palms and luscious green foliage, is a stunning private oasis, and amidst its tropical expanse lies the villa’s dedicated events space – a coconut grove directly connected to the beach via a pretty timber walkway, which makes an unforgettable setting for nuptial vows.

Sungai Tinggi Beach Villa feels like a celebration of Bali, and the owners’ love and passion for the island is evident in the fine selection of local materials and stunning collection of handpicked artworks that liberally adorn the property. Sungai Tinggi Beach Villa is blessed with a sublime beachfront location near Pererenan on Bali’s south-west coast. Here guests can take a leisurely sunset stroll along the quiet beach, surf on one of the island’s best breaks, or admire the fishermen in their brightly coloured jukungs (traditional fishing boats) hauling in the daily catch. An interesting juxtaposition of traditional and modern, this is where daily offerings at the village temple and meticulous tending of rice fields are the norm, while being home to some of the most exciting cafés and restaurants on the island.

Guests at Sungai Tinggi Beach Villa are privy to a real slice of local Bali life. Should the bright lights of Seminyak beckon, the many upmarket restaurants, bars and shops of the cosmopolitan district are a short drive away, and your car and driver are on standby to whisk you there.

Canggu has transformed in the past couple of years from a semi-rural, paddy-dotted sleepy district to one of the most happening places on the island. Often dubbed the ‘coffee hub’ of Bali, there are over 15 coffee shops in Pererenan alone, not counting the plethora of coffee shops, cafes and restaurants that jostle for your attention in Canggu.

The Villa Manager at Sungai Tinggi Beach Villa has a wealth of information about nearby places of interest and can help arrange transport and make any bookings required. Do also ask the staff about the local area. Many of them live nearby and will be able to give an interesting insight into some of the fascinating aspects of Bali life.

In the meantime, here’s a taste of some of the activities on offer within reach of the villa:

Head to Monsieur Spoon, an artisan French bakery, only 50m from the villa. Their all-butter croissant is arguably the best in Bali, and standards are not allowed to slip at this family-run bakery-cafe started by two Parisian cousins.
Catch a wave at one of Bali’s fabulous surfing beaches, all within easy access and Pererenan Beach right on your doorstep. Among these beautiful black sand beaches, Echo Beach is perhaps the most famed surfers haunt, but all are in a prime position for Bali’s legendary sunsets.
Nearby Canggu is now party central. Get a taste of Canggu at one of the many popular establishments here, such as Old Man’s bar with its seaside beer garden or The Lawn - a beach lounge which offers front row seats to the most spectacular sunset.
Giving new meaning to shabby tropical chic, La Brisa is a beach club with a difference. Discover it, or other exciting nightclubs like La Favela at the spirited Echo Beach, a short drive away from the villa.
Make the de rigueur pilgrimage to sacred Pura Tanah Lot, one of Bali’s biggest tourist magnets. Perched high on a craggy, wave-lashed rock, this ancient sea temple is best savoured at sunset but is less busy in the mornings; be sure to receive a blessing from the Hindu priests.

For a day of culture and dramatic landscapes, drive directly north from the villa to the mountain town of Bedugul. From here, explore three volcanic lakes, including Bratan, with its photogenic and stunningly positioned Pura Ulun Danu – one of Bali’s most important temples.

Dining

Take advantage of the villa’s experienced kitchen team who are at your service to prepare delicious home-style meals. The villa offers a suggestion menu featuring Asian and international dishes to cater to all tastes with an excellent selection of vegetarian and children’s options. Be sure to sample some of the local Balinese delicacies such as Soto Ayam (chicken soup) and traditional Rendang (beef curry). Or, with the abundance of seafood on your door step, ask one of the cooks to grill up the catch of the day on the barbecue.

If guests have specific requests the cooks are more than happy to tailor meals accordingly and accommodate any special dietary requirements. To make the most of the kitchen and give staff time to shop, it is a good idea to plan meals the evening before. (Groceries and beverages are charged at cost price plus 20% which is also subject to service charge and government tax. Guests will be requested to provide grocery money in advance and the staff will do the shopping for you and keep the receipts for your reference.)

The villa was so peaceful for my family and the staff fed us with many great meals. We enjoyed the pool, beach and wonderful service during our stay there.

I really enjoyed my short stay at this villa. The location is a delight right next to the beach. The sunsets are superb. The villa is very homely with loads of books, bits and pieces belonging to the owners and lovely little details in design, really making you feel at home. Helped by some very friendly staff who are very keen to please. The food was incredible value for money.
