Snow-draped birch trees press close to the windows as warm winter light spills across KunNe Soga Chalet’s upper-floor living room, a calm perch above the quiet Soga forest. Clean lines, wood floors and soft grey sofas set a modern, minimalist tone, while wide picture windows frame glimpses of nearby Mount Niseko and the surrounding woodland. Set along a secluded gravel road, KunNe Soga Chalet is a serene mountain retreat where contemporary Japanese architecture meets alpine stillness; its name means dark in the language of the Ainu people, a nod to the chalet’s striking black façade against the often snow-bright landscape.
Mornings here begin slowly, coffee steam catching sunlight as it pours through generous windows into the open-plan living area. The sleek modern kitchen invites relaxed, communal cooking, where evenings bring shared meals, board games and mugs of hot cocoa after a day on the slopes. Downstairs, three cocoon-like bedrooms offer deep and restorative rest, their thoughtful layout designed for uninterrupted sleep. A shared bunk room makes the chalet especially well-suited to families or close friends travelling together, offering flexible sleeping options.
This blissfully remote chalet offers a level of peace rarely found in Niseko ski accommodation, while still keeping adventure close at hand. Hire a car to explore the area around or rely on the free shuttle service offered by Elite Havens during snowy months. Annupuri, Niseko Village and Moiwa ski resorts are all an easy drive away, as are local favourites like Pizza Del Sole, Milk Kobo dairy cafés and soothing onsen in the surrounding hills. Evenings can bring everything from cosy cinema nights and forest views, to lively dinners out in Hirafu before returning to your calm abode. KunNe Soga chalet is ideally suited for those seeking a quiet haven in one of the world’s busiest tourist spots.

Amidst the quiet woodland of Soga, KunNe Soga Chalet sits apart from Niseko’s busier streets, offering a slower, more contemplative side of the region. Surrounded by forest and seasonal snowfields, the chalet is a retreat in the truest sense, while remaining well positioned to explore Niseko’s ski resorts, onsen and dining spots by car. New Chitose Airport (Sapporo) is around a two-hour drive, and guests are rewarded with a rare stillness on arrival, a sense of space and privacy that defines the Soga area. Annupuri, Niseko Village and Moiwa ski resorts are all within easy driving distance, while Hirafu’s restaurants and nightlife are close enough for evenings out before returning to the calm of the forest.
More information for Things to doHere is a taste of the many and varied activities on offer within reach of the chalet:
- Ski Niseko’s famous ski resorts, Annupuri, Moiwa and Niseko Village, offer excellent powder and a more relaxed atmosphere than central Hirafu. Ideal for families and intermediate skiers, these areas promise uncrowded runs and an unhurried pace.
- Step into a hushed winter landscape on guided snowshoe walks through Soga Forest, where snow-laden trees and stillness define the experience.
- Unwind at Goshiki Onsen, one of the region’s most atmospheric hot springs. Its open-air baths, framed by forest and snow, offer a deeply restorative ritual after a day outdoors.
- Visit the Soga Hokuei Stone Circle, a lesser-known historical site that reveals glimpses of Niseko’s ancient past. Set quietly within nature, it’s ideal for reflective walks and moments of pause.
- Taste Niseko’s local food scene with a drive to nearby favourites such as Pizza Del Sole, Rookie’s Kitchen Shabu-Shabu, Ramen Horieya, and Takahashi Dairy Farm’s Milk Kobo and Prativo restaurants, celebrated for fresh produce and sweeping views of Mount Yotei.
- When winter fades, explore Niseko Town’s cherry blossoms in spring. Soga Forest Park and Soga Shrine come alive with pink petals, offering idyllic picnic spots, gentle walks and photo-worthy views of Mount Yotei framed by sakura.
- Discover Niseko beyond skiing. From cycling and forest hikes to relaxed café-hopping and seasonal farm visits, the area rewards those who slow down and explore at a quieter pace.
As dusk settles, return to the forest, where evenings unfold with shared meals, quiet conversation and the luxury of true mountain stillness.

Choose from Niseko Gourmet’s tempting menu and enjoy delicious food in the comfort of your living room. For an indulgent experience, ask our Concierge to set up a Niseko Gourmet dinner in your chalet. Sit back and relax as a master chef cooks up a storm within your holiday home and serves you delectable meals including a live display of handmade sushi or an intimate sashimi, tempura and soba noodle experience. Extravagant five or seven-course dinners for adults and two-course dinners for children can also be prepared.
If you feel like heading out, you’ll be spoilt for choice with some of the best restaurants in the area a stone’s throw away.
